Sat Apr 19 21:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Guardians Edge Pirates in High-Scoring Affair, 10-7

**Pittsburgh, PA** – Luis Ortiz overcame a rocky start to secure his second straight win as the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-7 Friday night at PNC Park. Ortiz, facing his former team for the first time since a December trade, allowed a leadoff home run to O’Neil Cruz in the first inning but ultimately pitched five innings, striking out eight while allowing four hits and three runs.

The Guardians offense exploded for a season-high 10 runs and 14 hits, fueled by Bo Naylor’s three-hit performance, including a home run and three RBIs. Naylor’s strong showing came after a recent slump. Cleveland also tallied a season-high five doubles.

The Pirates, despite Cruz’s early power surge, couldn’t contain the Guardians’ offensive outburst. After falling behind 2-1, they briefly tied the game but the Guardians pulled away with runs in the fourth, fifth, and a decisive five-run seventh inning.

While the Guardians bullpen allowed three runs in the late innings, closer Emmanuel Clase secured the save despite walking a batter in the ninth. A crucial outfield assist by Steven Kwan prevented further damage.

Manager Stephen Vogt praised Ortiz’s resilience, noting his ability to settle down after a challenging start. Vogt also highlighted the team’s offensive performance and the clutch defensive play by Kwan.

The Guardians and Pirates continue their series Saturday at 4:05 p.m. EDT.
