**Mangaluru, April 20, 2025** – Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has pledged to punish those responsible for allegedly forcing students to remove their “janivara” (sacred thread) during the Common Entrance Test (CET). Speaking at a function in Belthangady, he affirmed the government’s commitment to religious freedom and protecting all faiths, emphasizing that the government will not interfere in religious practices but will ensure justice for all.
Shivakumar also addressed the recently completed Socio Economic and Educational Survey (caste census), stating that the government needs time to study the report before making any decisions on its recommendations. He assured that the government is committed to empowering deprived sections of society.
In a separate engagement, the Deputy CM, along with Law Minister H.K. Patil, announced plans to visit Dakshina Kannada next month to explore job creation opportunities for the coastal region. Shivakumar concluded his day by inaugurating a new complex of three Kalyana Mandiras (marriage halls) in Dharmasthala.
