Sat Apr 19 20:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Cubs Stage Incredible Comeback, Defeat Diamondbacks in 13-11 Thriller

**Chicago, IL** – In a game for the ages, the Chicago Cubs overcame a 10-run deficit in the eighth inning to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 13-11 on Friday. The contest featured a combined 21 runs in the seventh and eighth innings alone, marking the first nine-inning MLB game where both teams scored 10 or more runs from the seventh inning onward.

The Diamondbacks, winners of five straight, jumped ahead with a five-run seventh and then exploded for 10 runs in the top of the eighth, fueled by Eugenio Suarez’s grand slam and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s three-run homer. This left the Cubs trailing 11-7, and the Wrigley Field crowd of over 39,000 voiced their displeasure.

However, the Cubs answered with a stunning six-run rally in the bottom of the eighth. Carson Kelly’s three-run homer ignited the comeback, followed by Kyle Tucker’s go-ahead two-run blast that sent the home crowd into a frenzy. Seiya Suzuki added another RBI, securing the improbable 13-11 victory. The 16 combined runs in the eighth inning set a new Wrigley Field record.

“It was crazy,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said post-game. “We gave up 10 runs in an inning and we won. It’s a wild game, but we kept going.”

The win marks just the seventh time in at least 125 seasons a team has allowed 10 or more runs in an inning and still won, and the fifth time a team has both surrendered and scored six or more runs in the same inning. Arizona becomes only the third team in the last 50 seasons to lose after scoring 10 runs in a single inning.

Ian Happ contributed a grand slam for the Cubs earlier in the game, while Carson Kelly hit two home runs for the Diamondbacks. Despite the rollercoaster game, both teams showcased their offensive power, leaving fans and players alike stunned by the dramatic turnaround. The Cubs, who also benefitted from a five-run seventh inning, proved their resilience in a game that will be remembered for years to come.
