Sun Apr 20 15:02:39 UTC 2025: ## Nagapattinam’s Decaying Urban Primary Health Centre Awaits Demolition and Reconstruction

**Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, April 20, 2025** – The dilapidated Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) on Marundhu Kothalam Road in Nagapattinam town remains a pressing concern, with local residents demanding immediate action. Two years after the UPHC was relocated due to structural damage, the promised demolition and reconstruction of a new facility has yet to commence.

The Consumer Protection Welfare Association, representing Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Tiruvarur districts, has urged authorities to expedite the project. While ₹1.2 crore was allocated under the National Health Mission for the new building, progress remains stalled, forcing the UPHC to operate from a cramped, less accessible temporary location on Pazha Street.

Association president N.P. Bhaskaran highlighted repeated appeals to the district administration and municipal authorities without success. Although official sources claim the project will soon begin, the lack of visible progress fuels local frustration regarding the crucial healthcare facility’s dire state.
