Sun Apr 20 13:00:58 UTC 2025: ## BJP Launches Statewide Campaign for ‘One Nation-One Election’

**Hyderabad, Telangana – April 20, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana has launched a mass contact program to garner support for the “One Nation-One Election” concept. The initiative, which will involve hundreds of small meetings with opinion leaders and citizens across the state, aims to educate the public on the perceived advantages of synchronizing elections for all levels of governance.

According to N. Ramchander Rao, former MLC and program in-charge, the BJP plans to hold at least 500 meetings to build favorable public opinion. The party cites the potential for economic benefits, estimating that simultaneous elections could save over ₹1.5 lakh crore (approximately 1.5% of India’s GDP). Rao, an advocate, also argues that the concept is not new, as India held single elections until 1967, and points to the success of other countries like Sweden which utilize this system.

While acknowledging concerns from regional parties about the potential advantage to national parties, Rao claims that these concerns can be addressed, noting that some regional parties are already supportive of the idea. The BJP intends to complete its campaign before the central government introduces any proposed amendments to the bill, aiming to build widespread support before any legislative changes are implemented. The party highlights the endorsement of the proposal by legal experts, including former Supreme Court and High Court judges.
