Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A wedding in Meerut took an unexpected turn when the groom, Mohammad Azeem (22), discovered that the bride, whom he believed to be Mantasha (21), was actually her own mother. The shocking revelation led to a police complaint and a heated confrontation.
Azeem, from Brahmpuri, Meerut, had been arranged to marry Mantasha from Shamli district. During the Nikah ceremony, the Maulvi (cleric) announced the bride’s name as “Tahira,” raising Azeem’s suspicions. Upon removing the bride’s veil, he found the 45-year-old mother of Mantasha in place of his intended bride.
Azeem alleges that his own brother and sister-in-law, who represented him at the wedding, were complicit with the bride’s family, threatening him with a false rape case if he protested. Devastated and feeling cheated, Azeem filed a police complaint on Thursday, stating that he had already spent ₹5 lakh on the wedding preparations. The incident is now under police investigation.
