VISAKHAPATNAM, April 20, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh government announced the schedule for the District Selection Committee (DSC) recruitment of 1,139 teachers in the Visakhapatnam district on Saturday night. This fulfills an election promise made by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who signed off on the initial stages of the recruitment process shortly after taking office last year. The notification detailing the recruitment process will be released on Sunday.

The vacancies are spread across government, Zilla Parishad (ZP), Mandal Parishad (MPP), municipal, and tribal welfare schools. The breakdown includes 574 Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) posts and 560 School Assistant posts. An additional five posts are available in Juvenile Welfare Schools. Furthermore, 400 positions will be filled across residential schools in Zone-1 (covering the three old districts of North Andhra).

The School Assistant positions are distributed as follows: 495 in government, ZP, MPP, and municipal schools and 65 in tribal welfare schools. Subject-wise, these include vacancies for Telugu, Hindi, English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Social Studies, and Physical Education. The SGT positions are divided between mainstream schools (239) and tribal welfare schools (335), with a higher concentration of SGT vacancies in the agency areas compared to the plains. The five Juvenile Welfare School posts comprise four SGT and one School Assistant position. The recruitment process is expected to alleviate the teacher shortage in the region.
