Sat Apr 19 11:20:19 UTC 2025: ## Unseasonal Storms Devastate Mango Crop in Karnataka

**Yadgir, Karnataka –** Unseasonal rains, gusty winds, and a hailstorm have wreaked havoc on the mango crop in Yadgir district’s Wadagera taluk, leaving farmers facing significant losses. Mangoes, ripe and ready for harvest, were ripped from trees, rendering them unsaleable.

Farmers, who had invested heavily in their crops, are now devastated. Mallikarjun Reddy Bilhar, a local farmer, expressed his despair, stating that the storm destroyed his hopes of a bountiful harvest. Chand Pasha Kurkundi highlighted the issue of the damaged fruit being unmarketable, even at reduced prices.

Mallanagouda Hagaratagi, a farmer leader, called for government intervention, emphasizing the recurring pattern of farmers suffering losses due to unpredictable weather events. He urged the government to provide compensation for the damaged crop.

While a joint survey by revenue and horticulture departments has been conducted and a report submitted to the Wadagera tahsildar, activist Ningu Jadi advocated for a more thorough assessment of the damage to ensure fair compensation for affected farmers. The incident underscores the vulnerability of farmers to unpredictable weather patterns and the need for robust support mechanisms.
