**NEW DELHI, April 19, 2025** – The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly condemned the killing of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a prominent Hindu leader in Bangladesh, and accused the interim government of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities. Roy, 58, was abducted and murdered on Thursday, April 17th.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that Roy’s death is part of a pattern of violence against Hindus under the interim government led by Professor Mohammed Yunus, and that perpetrators of previous attacks remain unpunished. The statement urged the Bangladeshi government to uphold its responsibility to protect all minority groups.
This latest condemnation follows a recent exchange between the two countries regarding minority rights. On Thursday, Bangladesh’s Press Secretary urged India to ensure the safety of its Muslim minority population, prompting a rebuke from India, which called the remarks “disingenuous.” The escalating exchange highlights growing tensions between India and Bangladesh over the treatment of religious minorities in both nations.
