Fri Apr 18 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Hays’ Grand Return Fuels Reds’ Victory Over Mariners

**Cincinnati, OH –** Austin Hays made a triumphant return to baseball, powering the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners Tuesday night. Hays, who signed with Cincinnati this offseason, had a four-RBI performance in his season debut, overcoming a left calf strain that sidelined him to start the year. His three-run homer in the fifth inning capped a four-run rally that proved decisive.

Seattle’s Dylan Moore countered with two home runs and four RBIs of his own, including a two-run shot in the fifth that briefly put the Mariners ahead 4-2. However, the Reds’ offense proved too much to handle. Gavin Lux contributed four hits for Cincinnati, while Matt McLain, returning from a hamstring injury, walked three times and scored twice.

Luis Castillo, making his first career start against his former team after being traded to Seattle last July, struggled, allowing six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Nick Lodolo started for Cincinnati, giving up four runs and five hits over 4 2/3 innings. Scott Barlow earned the win in relief.

Ben Williamson made his major league debut for Seattle, going 1 for 3. Cal Raleigh, who had homered in each of the Mariners’ previous three games, was unable to extend his streak, grounding out with the bases loaded in the sixth. The Reds have now won four games in a row. Bryce Miller will pitch for Seattle and Nick Martinez for Cincinnati in Wednesday’s matchup.
