BHUBANESWAR, Odisha – Naveen Patnaik has been elected for a ninth consecutive term as president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the party announced Saturday. Addressing party workers, Mr. Patnaik, also the former Chief Minister of Odisha, attributed their narrow defeat in the recent Assembly elections to the BJP’s “false narrative” and pledged to counter it aggressively, particularly through social media.
Mr. Patnaik, who was the sole candidate, emphasized the need for improved online presence and the utilization of technology to disseminate factual information. He highlighted the BJD’s strong organizational structure and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to overcome the BJP’s propaganda.
He characterized the period from 2000 to 2024, during which the BJD governed Odisha, as a “golden age,” reiterating the party’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens, particularly women, farmers, youth, and tribal communities. He underscored the party’s continued dedication to Odisha’s development and the protection of its interests. The BJD’s state council, comprising 355 members, witnessed the election and subsequent celebrations.
