Fri Apr 18 20:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Nationwide Candy Recall Issued Due to Undeclared Color Additives

**New York, NY** – A nationwide recall of Golden Crop Candy has been initiated by Blooming Import Inc. after the discovery of undeclared color additives in the product. The recall, classified as Class II by the FDA, affects 74 cases of the 10-ounce candy distributed across eight states: New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Missouri, Delaware, and Texas. The affected product has the UPC 73476513450.

The candy contains Blue 1, Red 40, and Acid Red 18, none of which were listed on the product label. While Blue 1 and Red 40 are FDA-approved, Acid Red 18 (E124) is not, making the product adulterated. While reactions to color additives are rare, the FDA mandates their declaration on labels to allow consumers to avoid them if necessary. Concerns exist regarding the potential impact of Acid Red 18 on children, with some studies suggesting a link to hyperactivity, although this hasn’t been fully substantiated.

Francisco Diez-Gonzalez, Director and Professor at the University of Georgia’s Center for Food Safety, stated that while some studies show potential links between Blue 1 and Red 40 and allergic reactions or behavioral issues in children, and some animal studies suggest a link to cancer, these connections haven’t been definitively established in humans. He emphasized that at permitted levels, the risks remain relatively low.

The FDA’s recall is ongoing. Consumers who suspect an adverse reaction are urged to report it to their local FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator. Blooming Import Inc. has been contacted for comment.
