Sat Apr 19 02:20:00 UTC 2025: ## West Bengal Braces for More Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall
**Kolkata, India** – West Bengal is bracing for another day of severe weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across the state until Sunday. A low-pressure axis extending from Madhya Pradesh to Assam is drawing significant moisture from the Bay of Bengal, leading to the unsettled conditions.
The IMD warns of squalls with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour in some areas, particularly in South Bengal. Districts including East Burdwan, Hooghly, and West Medinipur are expected to experience heavy rainfall today. Other districts, including Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, Hooghly, Howrah, and Kolkata, are under a thunderstorm watch. North Bengal will also see scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds, primarily in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and the Dinajpur districts. Rainfall is expected to ease in North Bengal after Monday.
Kolkata experienced 22 millimeters of rainfall and strong winds overnight, resulting in a 5.5-degree Celsius drop in overnight temperatures. While the morning brought pleasant weather, the IMD anticipates a return to hot and humid conditions later today, with the possibility of gusty winds and moderate rainfall in the afternoon. Humidity levels are forecast to reach 100 percent by the evening. Temperatures are expected to gradually rise from Wednesday onwards.
