**Kochi, April 19, 2025:** Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was unexpectedly arrested on Thursday in connection with a drug case. The arrest followed a police operation targeting Sajir, a suspected drug trafficker, who had been under surveillance by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) for some time.
DANSAF officers, acting on intelligence that Sajir was in Kochi, located him at a hotel in Kalooor. While Sajir wasn’t present, officers discovered that Chacko was staying there. Upon approaching Chacko’s room, the actor reportedly jumped from a third-story window and fled. He later traveled to Pollachi.
Chacko was subsequently issued a notice to appear for questioning. He did so this morning, reportedly on the advice of his lawyers. While no drugs were found in his possession or hotel room, police had anticipated this and proceeded with the arrest, charging him under sections 27 (drug use) and 29(1) (conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and section 238 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further charges may be added pending further investigation.
This is not Chacko’s first brush with the law. He was previously arrested on cocaine charges but acquitted due to perceived shortcomings in the police investigation. The high-profile nature of the case and the previous acquittal led to a more thorough investigation this time, with several senior officers from the Kochi police, including Central ACP C. Jayakumar, South ACP P. Rajkumar, and Narcotics Cell ACP K.A. Abdul Salam, participating in the interrogation.
