Thu Apr 17 06:35:11 UTC 2025: ## Four International Students Sue US Government Over Unlawful Visa Revocation

**Ann Arbor, MI – April 17, 2025** – Four international students, including Indian national Chinmay Deore, have filed a federal lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), alleging the unlawful termination of their student visas. The lawsuit, filed with the assistance of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan, seeks to reinstate their F-1 visas and prevent deportation.

The students – Deore (Wayne State University), Xiangyun Bu and Qiuyi Yang (both from China), and Yogesh Joshi (Nepal) – claim their student immigration status in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) was revoked without explanation or sufficient notice by the Trump administration. The ACLU argues this termination was “unlawful and abrupt.”

Deore, a 21-year-old computer science student, entered the US on an H-4 dependent visa in 2004, left in 2008, and returned in 2014. He legally transitioned to F-1 status in May 2022. The lawsuit emphasizes that none of the students have engaged in criminal activity, violated immigration laws, or participated in political protests.

The lawsuit requests an emergency injunction to reinstate the students’ visas, allowing them to complete their studies. The ACLU argues that the students face potential detention and deportation if their visas are not reinstated. The case highlights concerns surrounding the arbitrary revocation of student visas and its impact on international students pursuing higher education in the United States.
