NEW DELHI, April 18, 2025 – The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for President’s Rule in West Bengal following violent incidents targeting Hindus, allegedly in response to the Waqf Amendment Bill-2025. The organization claims the Mamata Banerjee government has failed to adequately address the violence and plans nationwide protests beginning April 19th.

VHP general secretary Milind Parande accused the West Bengal government of inaction and criticized a minister for making what he termed “anti-constitutional” remarks. He also raised concerns about the potential involvement of Bangladeshi sleeper cells in the violence.

Parande further expressed alarm over what he described as an alarming demographic imbalance, citing concerns about the declining Hindu population in various states, including Goa, where he claims a significant drop in the Christian population is coupled with a rise in the Muslim population. He suggested this imbalance could be a result of “systematic” settlement of Muslims from other parts of the country and could influence election outcomes.

Beyond the immediate crisis in West Bengal, the VHP announced plans for a nationwide awareness campaign to advocate for freeing temples from government control and enhancing the autonomy of Hindu religious institutions. The organization also intends to launch a recruitment drive aiming to enroll over 1 crore Hindus into the VHP within the next few months. It currently runs over 5500 service projects across the country, focusing on education, health and employment for underprivileged communities.
