Fri Apr 18 06:20:18 UTC 2025: ## American YouTuber Remains Detained After Illegal Visit to Isolated Island

**Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands –** A 24-year-old American YouTuber, Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov, remains in custody after illegally landing on North Sentinel Island, a restricted area in the Indian Ocean. Polyakov, from Scottsdale, Arizona, was arrested on March 31st after attempting to contact the Sentinelese tribe, a reclusive group known for their hostility towards outsiders.

Polyakov’s actions, which included leaving offerings and collecting sand samples, violate Indian laws that prohibit approaching the island within 5 kilometers. He faces a potential five-year prison sentence and a fine. The police stated that Polyakov’s actions, even if intended as an “adventure trip,” endangered the tribe’s survival.

This is not the first incident of its kind. In 2018, an American missionary was killed by the Sentinelese after illegally landing on the island. A similar incident involving fishermen occurred in 2006.

Polyakov appeared before a court on April 17th and will next appear on April 29th. The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi confirmed it is monitoring the situation but declined further comment due to privacy concerns. Police revealed Polyakov meticulously planned his trip, researching sea conditions and island accessibility before his brief, hour-long visit. He was apprehended after being spotted by local fishermen upon his return. The incident highlights the continued vulnerability of the Sentinelese people and the importance of respecting their isolation.
