Thu Apr 17 13:37:16 UTC 2025: ## US Vice President’s India Visit Aims to Boost Bilateral Ties Amidst Trade Tensions
**New Delhi, April 17, 2025** – U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is set to visit India from April 21st to 24th for a four-day trip aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, particularly focusing on a proposed bilateral trade agreement. The visit comes amidst global concerns regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent tariff policies.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed optimism that the visit will significantly boost India-U.S. ties, stating that all relevant issues, including trade and tariffs, will be discussed. Mr. Vance’s itinerary includes meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president J.P. Nadda. He will also be accompanied by his family.
The proposed trade deal aims to address issues related to levies, market access, and supply chains. While Mr. Trump recently announced a 90-day pause on tariffs for all countries except China, the looming threat of a global trade war remains a significant backdrop to the visit. This trip follows a recent visit by U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, further highlighting the ongoing high-level engagement between the two nations. The two countries announced plans to negotiate the first part of the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by the fall of 2025 following talks between Mr. Modi and Mr. Trump in February.
