NEW DELHI, April 18, 2025 – Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister, Ravinder Indraj Singh, announced today that a “third gender” option will be made mandatory on all government welfare scheme application forms. This move aims to ensure equal access to benefits for transgender individuals.
The announcement follows a meeting with a delegation of transgender representatives during National Transgender Day Week. Minister Singh stated that the delegation highlighted the need for greater inclusivity in government programs designed to support transgender individuals’ self-reliance and dignified living.
In addition to the mandatory inclusion of the “third gender” option, the Delhi government will launch public awareness campaigns promoting transgender rights and social inclusion, and will issue a notification regarding the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules.
