**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, April 18, 2025** – A 22-year-old man accused of rape was subjected to a brutal mob attack in the Visheshwarganj area of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. A video circulating on social media shows the man, stripped naked from the waist down, tied to a bullock cart and assaulted by a group of men and women. The incident occurred on April 3rd, but came to light only after the video surfaced on April 17th.
Police have registered a case following a complaint filed by the victim’s family. While the man had been booked in a rape case earlier in April, the assault itself was not reported until the video went viral. The police are investigating both the rape allegation and the subsequent mob violence.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Pandey stated that an FIR has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assault and causing harm. Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ramanand Prasad Kushwaha confirmed that the accused in the rape case had been absconding. While the individuals involved in both incidents belong to different communities, police maintain there is no evidence of communal tension, though forces have been deployed as a precaution.
