**Yadgir, Karnataka, April 18, 2025** – Severe thunderstorms and gusty winds have ravaged Yadgir district in Karnataka over the past 48 hours, resulting in significant damage to property and agriculture. At least 16 sheep perished in two villages, Sharadahalli and Kongandi, in Shahapur taluk. In Sharadahalli, lightning struck a flock, killing several sheep. In Kongandi, strong winds caused a tin sheet to collapse from a shed, killing two more. The Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Raju Deshmukh, announced compensation of ₹5,000 per sheep will be provided.
The storms also uprooted over 250 electricity poles, disrupting power supply across rural areas. GESCOM (Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company) is working to restore electricity. Furthermore, approximately 250 acres of paddy crops, ready for harvest, were damaged by the high winds. Farmers are demanding compensation for their losses.
The Revenue Department will conduct a joint survey with relevant departments starting Saturday to assess the extent of crop damage. The findings will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner to determine further action, according to Shahapur Tahsildar Umakanth Halle.
