**New Delhi, April 18, 2025** – Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has called on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to enact a law aimed at eradicating caste-based discrimination in the state’s education system. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Gandhi referenced the experiences of B.R. Ambedkar, highlighting the historical and ongoing injustices faced by students from Dalit, Adivasi, and OBC communities.

Gandhi’s letter cites Ambedkar’s own accounts of caste-based discrimination he faced in school and during his childhood, emphasizing the continuing relevance of these struggles. He linked the need for legislative action to the tragic suicides of students like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi, and Darshan Solanki, all of whom were victims of caste-based discrimination.

The proposed “Rohith Vemula Act” aims to prevent future tragedies by providing legal protection against such discrimination within educational institutions. Gandhi’s appeal follows recent meetings with students and teachers who shared their experiences of ongoing caste discrimination in colleges and universities across India.
