**Hyderabad, April 18, 2025** – Large-scale protests erupted in Hyderabad following the passage of new waqf legislation in Parliament. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is spearheading the demonstrations, with a major public meeting planned for Saturday at Darussalaam.
Mosque leaders (khateebs) are actively informing congregants about the amendments and their potential impact on waqf properties, including mosques and graveyards. Political figures are also actively engaged, organizing logistics and encouraging participation in the AIMPLB meeting, which is expected to draw thousands.
The Muslim Joint Action Committee (JAC) has announced a separate protest march for April 26th at Dharna Chowk. Smaller demonstrations have already taken place across the city, including near the Mecca Masjid. The Congress party also held a special prayer meeting in support of the protests. Several parties are challenging the amendments in the Supreme Court.
