Fri Apr 18 15:45:17 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad Hit by Severe Thunderstorm, Power Outages Ensue
**Hyderabad, April 18, 2025** – A sudden and severe thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds swept through parts of Hyderabad this evening, causing widespread power outages. The downpour, attributed to cumulonimbus clouds, resulted in numerous trees and tree branches falling onto power lines, disrupting electricity supply across the city.
The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) deployed disaster response teams to address the damage. Teams are working to remove debris from transmission and distribution lines and restore power by repairing damaged lines or switching to alternative feeders.
Significant damage was reported in several areas. A large tree fell in Red Hills, causing a fire in a roadside transformer. Other areas affected include Babu Nagar, Langar Houz, and numerous locations within the Asmangadh division of the Old City, where approximately three dozen feeder lines were impacted. The affected areas included A.C. Guards Section, Bazharghat, Sai Enclave, Green Hills (Habsiguda), Malakpet, Triveni Nagar (Saroor Nagar), Badangpet, Athvelly (Medchal), Abullapurmet, and Motilalnagar (Begumpet). Restoration efforts are underway.
