Fri Apr 18 06:33:30 UTC 2025: ## Meghalaya MLA Exposes Alleged Fraud in Jal Jeevan Mission

**Guwahati, April 18, 2025** – A Trinamool Congress MLA in Meghalaya has accused the state government of irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), a flagship program aimed at providing tap water to all rural households. Mizanur Rahman Kazi, representing Rajabala constituency, claims a “bogus” tap connection was registered in his name, highlighting discrepancies between official reports and ground realities.

Kazi’s inspection of an augmentation project in Nekikona village revealed a stark contrast between the government’s claim of 100% project completion and the actual progress, which he estimated at a mere 15%. He further pointed out that the existence of a tap connection in his name is purely on paper.

This isn’t an isolated incident, according to Kazi. He alleges similar discrepancies exist in other centrally-sponsored schemes, citing the public distribution system as another example. He has demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.

While the JJM dashboard indicates 81.98% completion in Meghalaya, with 529,885 households out of a targeted 650,914 receiving connections, the MLA’s allegations cast doubt on these figures. The state government, led by the National People’s Party, has extended the deadline for full implementation to December 2025.

The West Garo Hills district authorities have stated they are investigating the MLA’s claims. Progress across the state’s districts varies widely, with South Garo Hills leading at 90.82% and East Jaintia Hills lagging at 66.7%.
