**New Delhi, April 18, 2025** – Two cornerstone texts of Indian culture, the Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni’s Natyashastra, have been inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, joining 73 other documentary heritage collections from around the globe. This brings the total number of entries on the register to 570.

The announcement, made on April 17th, was celebrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who hailed the inscription as a “proud moment for every Indian.” He highlighted the Gita and Natyashastra’s enduring influence on civilization and consciousness, noting their continued global inspiration.

Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat echoed the sentiment, calling it a historic moment for India’s civilizational heritage. He emphasized the philosophical and aesthetic significance of these works, which he described as shaping India’s worldview.

With these additions, India now boasts 14 entries on the prestigious UNESCO register. The Natyashastra, a seminal text on performing arts, and the Bhagavad Gita, a revered philosophical and religious text, represent a significant contribution to global cultural heritage. The UNESCO inscription recognizes their timeless wisdom and artistic genius.
