Fri Apr 18 15:36:13 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Sub-Inspector Arrested for Misusing Seized Funds
**Hyderabad, April 18, 2025** – A sub-inspector of police in Mancherial district, Telangana, has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for misusing funds seized during an extortion case. Nelki Sugunakar, 38, stationed at the Coal Chemical Complex (CCC) Naspoor police station, allegedly spent ₹1.5 lakh of the ₹2 lakh confiscated from individuals accused of unlawfully restraining a complainant.
Sugunakar registered a case against these individuals and, instead of returning the seized money to the complainant, demanded and received a ₹30,000 bribe via Phone Pay through an associate to keep the complainant’s name out of the FIR. He further threatened the complainant with implication in the case if the bribe wasn’t paid.
When a court order compelled the return of the seized funds, Sugunakar claimed to have only ₹50,000 remaining, falsely claiming to have returned the full amount with a staged photograph. He was subsequently arrested and produced before the Special Court for SPE & ACB Cases in Karimnagar. The investigation is ongoing, and the complainant’s identity remains confidential for security reasons.
