Fri Apr 18 16:52:32 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka CET Exam: Suo Motu Case Filed After Student Barred for Religious Wear
**Bengaluru, April 18, 2025** – The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has launched a suo motu case following allegations that a student was prevented from taking the Common Entrance Test (CET) mathematics exam for wearing a religious garment, a Shivadara. The incident, which occurred during the CET held April 15-17, sparked outrage and prompted an investigation.
KSCPCR member Shashidhar Kosambe visited the student’s home in Bidar district and confirmed the allegations. Kosambe stated that notices have been issued to relevant officials, and stringent action is recommended. The KSCPCR also plans to request the Higher Education Department allow the student to retake the exam.
The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), responsible for conducting the CET, has requested detailed reports from the Bidar and Shivamogga district administrations where similar incidents allegedly occurred. KEA executive director H. Prasanna condemned the actions, emphasizing that the dress code did not prohibit the wearing of a Shivadara and promising strict action against those responsible.
The opposition BJP criticized the incidents, with Chief Whip N. Ravi Kumar alleging the actions reflect an “anti-Hindu attitude” within the Congress government. The controversy continues to unfold, raising questions about religious freedom and exam regulations in Karnataka.
