Fri Apr 18 04:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Kesari Chapter 2 Opens Strong on Good Friday, Early Estimates Show Promising Box Office Start
**Mumbai, India** – The courtroom drama *Kesari Chapter 2*, a sequel to the 2019 hit *Kesari*, enjoyed a promising opening day on Good Friday, coinciding with the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Early estimates from Sacnilk suggest a Rs 26 lakh opening day collection, though this figure is expected to rise as the day progresses.
Starring R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday, the film, based on the book “The Case That Shook the Empire,” recounts the legal battle following the massacre. R. Madhavan portrays Neville McKinley, the British lawyer defending the Crown, while Ananya Panday plays a modern-day character, Dilreet Gill. Akshay Kumar, who starred in the original *Kesari*, is notably absent from this sequel, though the film maintains a connection to the overall narrative.
Advance booking figures were impressive, with nearly 57,000 tickets sold nationwide. The film is playing in over 4,400 screens across India, with strong showings in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Delhi, contributing over one-third of initial box office earnings. The Delhi NCR region alone boasts over 50 screenings already filling up rapidly.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, *Kesari Chapter 2* tells the story of lawyer C. Sankaran Nair, who challenged the British government in court after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. The film features a supporting cast including Regina Cassandra, Simon Paisley Day, and Alexx O’Nell. The long weekend is expected to boost box office numbers further.
