Thu Apr 17 23:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Bollywood Film “Kesari Chapter 2” to Recount Jallianwala Bagh Defamation Case

**Mumbai, India** – Dharma Productions is set to release “Kesari Chapter 2” this Friday, a film dramatizing the 1922 defamation case stemming from the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Starring Akshay Kumar as Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan, the movie is based on the book “The Case that Shook the Empire,” detailing Nair’s legal battle against Sir Michael O’Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab responsible for the massacre.

The film recounts how Nair, a prominent Indian lawyer and politician, faced a defamation suit after publishing a book criticizing O’Dwyer’s role in the massacre, where hundreds of unarmed civilians were killed by British troops. While Nair lost the case in the Court of the King’s Bench, his actions brought international attention to the brutality of the British Raj.

The release of “Kesari Chapter 2,” just three days after the anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, coincides with renewed calls for a British apology. Recently, British Conservative MP Bob Blackman urged his government to formally acknowledge the atrocities and offer an apology, describing the event as a “stain on British history.” Blackman highlighted the massacre’s impact on the Indian independence movement.

“Kesari Chapter 2” promises a compelling historical drama, pitting Kumar as Nair against Madhavan as O’Dwyer’s lawyer, with Panday portraying another key legal figure. The film aims to shed light on a pivotal moment in Indian history and the courageous fight for justice in the face of colonial oppression.
