**Chennai, April 18, 2025** – The Tamil film industry is buzzing with excitement over the upcoming release of “Thug Life,” a highly anticipated action gangster drama bringing together legendary actor Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam for the first time since their 1987 classic, “Nayakan.”
The film’s first single, “Jinguchaa,” composed by Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman, was launched today at a press meet in Chennai. Haasan, also a producer on the film, described “Thug Life” as the kind of cinema he enjoys watching and producing, made with love for a discerning audience. He reminisced about his early days dreaming of filmmaking with Ratnam.
Ratnam praised Haasan’s passion for cinema and his ability to balance mainstream and experimental work. The director also highlighted the reunion with his long-time collaborator, A.R. Rahman. Rahman stated that while the project is a reunion echoing the success of “Nayakan,” it has a distinctly modern feel, blending contemporary sound with the magic of the past.
The star-studded cast includes Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Joju George, and Ashok Selvan, all expressing their excitement at working alongside such cinematic giants. The film also boasts a powerful technical crew, including cinematographer Ravi K Chandran and editor Sreekar Prasad. “Jinguchaa,” a wedding celebratory song with lyrics by Kamal Haasan himself, features a surprise dance sequence with Haasan and Simbu.
“Thug Life,” produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies, is slated for theatrical release on June 5th.
