Fri Apr 18 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Reels Under Scorching Heat and Unseasonal Rains

**Hyderabad, April 18, 2025** – Telangana is grappling with a dual crisis: extreme heat and unseasonal storms. Temperatures soared to a high of 43.3 degrees Celsius in Bela, Adilabad district, while other areas experienced intense heat throughout Thursday. The afternoon heat gave way to evening thunderstorms and hail in several parts of the state, causing widespread disruption and significant damage to crops.

One person, a 52-year-old agricultural laborer named Paliseti Venkateshwarlu, died of heatstroke in Ettoorunagaram, Mulugu district. Several districts, including Vikarabad, Medak, Sangareddy, and Asifabad, reported crop damage due to heavy rains and strong winds. Vikarabad district was particularly hard hit, with strong winds uprooting trees and electricity poles in Peddemul, Bomrasapet, and Marpalli mandals. Hailstorms in Bomrasapet resulted in the death of 20 sheep. The temporary welcome arch erected for the Bhadrachalam temple festival in Tandur collapsed due to strong winds, disrupting traffic.

In Sangareddy district, Kohir and Jharasangam mandals were affected by heavy rain and strong winds, with 23 goats dying from a lightning strike in Kuppanagar. Medak district also experienced hail in several areas, damaging standing crops and road-side grain. Asifabad town experienced power outages due to fallen electricity poles caused by strong winds.

The combined Khammam district suffered extensive agricultural losses, with preliminary estimates suggesting damage to over 33% of crops across 2,947 acres of paddy, 226 acres of mango orchards, and other crops like maize and castor. Similar crop damage was reported across five mandals in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Farmers are facing substantial losses as their harvested and standing crops have been ruined by the unseasonal downpour.
