**HOSUR, April 18, 2025** – A tree plantation drive was launched today in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, as part of a green initiative by the State Legal Services Authority. The drive, a joint effort with the Highways and Rural Development Departments, saw over 250 saplings planted along the Hosur-Thally Road.
Madras High Court Justice R. Hemalatha inaugurated the event, emphasizing the urgent need to combat deforestation and its devastating consequences, including climate change and erratic monsoons. Justice Hemalatha criticized unchecked industrialization at the expense of environmental preservation.
The initiative serves a dual purpose, according to Justice Hemalatha. Beyond environmental benefits, the campaign aims to raise public awareness of the State Legal Services Authority and its role in providing legal aid and access to government schemes for citizens. A variety of saplings, including Spanish Cherry, Mahua, Neem, Tamarind, and Peepal trees, were planted during the drive.
