**Chennai, April 18, 2025** – The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has responded to recent complaints about inadequate bus services at Egmore North Railway Station during peak hours. Following an article in *The Hindu* highlighting commuter frustrations, the MTC clarified that the relocation of bus stops to a nearby road is temporary, due to ongoing railway station renovations.
The MTC stated that sufficient buses are operating on routes 28 and 28B, citing data from April 16th. They also confirmed that all necessary passenger amenities are available at the temporary terminus. Measures are in place to ensure drivers and conductors adhere to schedules, including monitoring by timekeepers.
The corporation further acknowledged ongoing requests to the Greater Chennai Corporation for improved bus shelters at various stops lacking these facilities. Currently, 1,810 of MTC’s 3,233 buses operate full shifts, with plans underway to increase the number of buses operating during the afternoon lunch hour to address the identified gap. The MTC maintains that it continues to adjust its bus services based on post-pandemic public demand.
