**Chennai, India (April 19, 2025)** – The Chennai Division of Southern Railway launched its first air-conditioned Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train service today, marking a significant upgrade for commuters on the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu route. The new service aims to provide a more comfortable and pleasant travel experience, especially during peak hours and hot weather.
The AC EMU train boasts several modern amenities including automatic doors, passenger information systems, CCTV cameras, and clearly marked entry and exit points. Following the success of similar services in Mumbai, the Chennai Division implemented the AC EMU on this high-traffic route to alleviate passenger discomfort.
The inaugural train departed Chennai Beach at 7:00 AM today, arriving in Chengalpattu at 8:35 AM. Southern Railway anticipates the AC EMU service will be particularly beneficial to office-goers and women travelers.
