**DHAKA, BANGLADESH** – Pakistan and Bangladesh held their first Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) in 15 years on Thursday, April 17, 2025, marking a significant step in improving bilateral relations. The meeting, led by respective Foreign Secretaries Jashim Uddin (Bangladesh) and Amna Baloch (Pakistan), focused on bolstering trade ties and addressing a range of other issues. The FOC took place at the Padma state guest house in Dhaka, days before a high-profile visit by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar. Dar’s visit, scheduled for later this month, will be the first by a Pakistani Foreign Minister to Bangladesh since 2012.
The resumption of talks follows a period of strained relations, particularly after Bangladesh initiated trials in 2010 for individuals who collaborated with Pakistani troops during the 1971 Liberation War. However, relations have improved since the installation of Professor Muhammad Yunus’ interim government last August. Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Baloch is also scheduled to meet with key advisors in Dhaka. The renewed engagement signals a potential turning point in the relationship between the two South Asian nations.
