Fri Apr 18 01:57:04 UTC 2025: ## US Airstrikes on Yemeni Port Kill at Least 38, Spark Outrage
**Sanaa, Yemen** – A series of US airstrikes on Yemen’s Ras Isa oil port on Thursday has resulted in the deaths of at least 38 people, according to Houthi-affiliated media. The attack, which also wounded at least 102, is among the deadliest conducted by US forces in Yemen.
Al Masirah TV, citing the Hodeidah Health Office, reported the casualties. Video footage shared by the outlet shows significant destruction and injured port workers. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strikes, stating they aimed to disrupt the Houthis’ fuel supply and economic power. However, the Pentagon has not yet commented on the rising death toll.
Eyewitnesses described the attacks as taking place while port workers were on duty, catching many by surprise. The strikes targeted multiple areas around the port facility, according to Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed al-Attab.
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation due to the high civilian casualties and the strategic importance of Ras Isa, which handles approximately 70% of Yemen’s imports and 80% of its humanitarian aid. The UN Development Programme considers the port and its oil pipeline “critical and irreplaceable infrastructure.”
Houthi officials have vowed that the attack will not deter their support for Gaza, and have linked it to the ongoing conflict in the region. Hours after the strikes, Israel reported intercepting a missile launched from Yemen. The Houthis have reportedly launched over 100 attacks on vessels they claim are linked to Israel since November. Washington has warned the Houthis that attacks will continue until they cease targeting shipping in the Red Sea. This incident marks one of the deadliest US military actions in Yemen since 2017, following a similar attack in March that reportedly killed more than 50 people.
