**GUWAHATI, INDIA – April 18, 2025** – A 16-year-old survivor of child sexual abuse in Assam has expressed profound gratitude to Sub-Inspector Pratibha Bora of the Satgaon police station in Guwahati. The girl, who previously held negative perceptions of police officers, credited Bora with helping her overcome trauma and pass her Class 10 exams. She gifted Bora a sketch and a heartfelt note expressing her admiration and aspiration to become a police officer herself.
The girl’s note highlights the positive impact of Bora’s support, stating that if all police officers were like her, many children would receive much-needed help. Her experience underscores the success of the Assam Police Sishu Mitra Programme, launched in 2019 to promote child-friendly policing.
Miguel Das Queah of the UTSAH Child Rights Organisation, a partner in the programme alongside UNICEF Assam, emphasized the importance of such feedback in evaluating the program’s effectiveness. The organization works closely with the Assam police to assist children in distress. The girl’s story serves as a powerful testament to the program’s impact on the ground and the transformative potential of compassionate policing.
