VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA (April 18, 2025) – A captivating exhibition of antique articles, stamps, and coins was held at the historic Hawa Mahal in Visakhapatnam on Friday, coinciding with World Heritage Day. Organized by Mayank Kumari Deo, former convener of INTACH-Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with the Numismatic and Philatelic Society of Visakhapatnam, the event drew significant interest from heritage and history enthusiasts.
The exhibition showcased a remarkable collection of artifacts, including a 150-year-old brass betel leaf box shaped like a peacock, highlighting the “paan” box culture prevalent in Uttar Pradesh. Other noteworthy items included antique brassware, a silver betel leaf box, a functioning antique cigarette lighter, and coins from various dynasties, including a 2,300-year-old silver coin described as one of the world’s smallest. The display also featured land documents issued by the East India Company in 1818 and a diverse collection of stamps.
Exhibitors shared insights into the history and significance of their collections, captivating visitors with tales of ancient craftsmanship and cultural practices. The event served as a platform to appreciate India’s rich heritage and the ingenuity of its ancestors.
