Fri Apr 18 07:34:47 UTC 2025: ## Maharashtra Expands Cashless Accident Treatment Scheme
**Mumbai, April 18, 2025** – The Maharashtra government announced a significant expansion of its cashless accident treatment scheme, increasing the coverage amount and the number of participating hospitals. Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar revealed that accident victims will now receive cashless treatment up to ₹1 lakh at an expanded network of 4,180 empanelled hospitals, a substantial increase from the current 1,792.
The minister emphasized the importance of timely and transparent implementation, warning of strict action against any violations. A study committee has been formed to review and expand the scheme further, considering the addition of costly procedures like organ transplants and primary healthcare services, with a report due within a month.
To improve accessibility, a new mobile application will be developed to provide information on participating hospitals, bed availability, and a complaint registration system. Participating hospitals are mandated to conduct monthly health camps, treating at least five patients under the scheme.
The government also aims to accelerate the distribution of Ayushman Bharat cards through the involvement of ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, ration shop owners, and citizen service centers, with increased honorariums for these workers. Minister Abitkar assured that sufficient funds, approximately ₹1,300 crore already disbursed since March, will be allocated to ensure the scheme’s continued success.
