Fri Apr 18 07:44:29 UTC 2025: ## 22 Maoists Surrender in Chhattisgarh, Citing Disillusionment

**Raipur, Chhattisgarh –** At least 22 Maoist rebels, including nine women, surrendered to security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Friday, April 18, 2025. The surrender comes amid a reported increase in surrenders in the Bastar region.

According to Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan, the Maoists cited disillusionment with the movement’s ideology and reported atrocities against local tribal communities as reasons for their decision. They also expressed admiration for the state government’s ‘Niyad Nellanar’ development scheme.

Among the surrendered rebels were several high-ranking members, including Muchaki Joga, a deputy commander, and his wife, Muchaki Jogi, both carrying a bounty of ₹8 lakh each. Others carried bounties ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹50,000. The surrendered Maoists were involved in numerous attacks on security forces, police said.

The surrendered individuals received an immediate assistance of ₹50,000 each and will be further rehabilitated under a government policy. The surrender follows a year in which 792 Maoists surrendered in the Bastar region. The operation involved the district police, District Reserve Guard (DRG), CRPF, and CoBRA units. The significant surrender is seen as a potential blow to the Maoist insurgency in the region.
