Fri Apr 18 13:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad Hit by Severe Thunderstorm and Heavy Rain, Causing Widespread Disruptions

**Hyderabad, April 18, 2025** – A severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain lashed several parts of Hyderabad this evening, causing significant disruptions across the city. The downpour, lasting approximately two hours, was attributed to a low-pressure trough over east and central Telangana and cumulonimbus clouds.

Strong winds and torrential rain quickly flooded roads, leaving motorists stranded and struggling with hazardous driving conditions. Numerous areas, including Nampally, Himayatnagar, Musheerabad, and Khairatabad, experienced the brunt of the storm.

The high winds brought down trees in several locations. In Nampally’s Red Hills area, a falling tree struck a transformer, causing it to explode. A similar incident occurred near Nizam Law College in Bahadurpura. In Langer Houz Bapunagar colony, a large tree fell, damaging two electricity poles and causing a power outage expected to last around five hours.

The intensity of the storm led to widespread power failures across the city. Areas such as KPHB, Dundigal, Suchitra, Kompally, and Jagadgirigutta also reported moderate rain and strong winds. The Secunderabad cantonment area experienced particularly fierce winds before heavy rainfall began. In Malakpet, rainwater accumulated under a railway bridge, briefly halting traffic until GHMC staff cleared the water.

Areas including Ameerpet, Panjagutta, Madhuranagar, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, and Kothi also experienced heavy rainfall and power outages.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a continuation of the rain in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Nagarkurnool districts until at least 8:30 PM tonight, with a possibility of further rain tomorrow.

GHMC officials have instructed their staff to clear rainwater from major junctions to prevent traffic jams. Police have also issued instructions to traffic personnel to manage potential congestion and have emergency teams on standby.
