Fri Apr 18 04:00:00 UTC 2025: ## South Bengal Braces for Nor’westers, Heavy Rainfall

**Kolkata, West Bengal:** South Bengal is bracing for another round of intense weather, with the Alipore Meteorological Department forecasting nor’westers and heavy rainfall across several districts on Friday. A low-pressure axis stretching from Madhya Pradesh to Assam is the cause, drawing copious amounts of moisture into the region.

The department issued a strong warning for several South Bengal districts, predicting thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50-60 km/h. Hooghly and West Medinipur districts are expected to experience particularly heavy rainfall. Similar conditions are anticipated in East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, Hooghly, Howrah, and Kolkata.

While Kolkata experienced a significant drop in temperature on Thursday following rainfall, Friday will also see a chance of showers. The minimum temperature on Friday morning was 20.9°C, 5.2°C below normal.

The department anticipates that temperatures will remain relatively stable in South Bengal until Tuesday, but a rise is expected from Wednesday. Meanwhile, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds are possible in North Bengal districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Malda, and North and South Dinajpur on Friday. Rainfall in North Bengal is expected to decrease after Monday. The risk of severe weather persists until Sunday.
