**LUCKNOW, INDIA** – The Indian National Congress (INC) staged a protest in Civil Lines today, burning an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) filing of charges against former party president Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

Congress leaders condemned the ED’s action, characterizing it as politically motivated vendetta by the central government. Chandran Yadav, Madhya Pradesh Congress co-incharge and national secretary, along with other prominent party officials, participated in the demonstration.

District Congress Committee City President Rajkumar Pachouri stated that the BJP government is targeting opposition leaders with a spirit of revenge, harming the soul of democracy. He alleged the BJP aims to dismantle democracy in India. District Congress President (Rural) Dr. Anand Ahirwar echoed these sentiments, accusing the government of using government agencies to suppress the opposition.

The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the administration, expressing their grievances. Numerous Congress leaders and workers participated in the protest, including former ministers and legislators. The event highlights the escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party.
