Thu Apr 17 17:14:20 UTC 2025: ## Madurai Court Hands Down Stiff Sentences in Two Separate Ganja Smuggling Cases
**Madurai, Tamil Nadu, April 17, 2025** – A Madurai court has delivered significant sentences in two separate cases involving the possession and smuggling of ganja (cannabis). M. Mallappahari Srikanth Reddy, arrested in 2017 for possessing 150 kg of ganja, received a 14-year rigorous imprisonment sentence and a Rs. 1 lakh fine. The Dindigul Narcotics Intelligence Bureau-Crime Investigation Department (NIB-CID) apprehended Reddy while he was smuggling the ganja in a car.
In a separate case, R. Senthil and S. Revathy were each sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 1 lakh for possessing 60 kg of ganja seized in Dindigul in 2021. Two other accused, M. Dhanapandi and V. Pothumani, were acquitted, while another, S. Vairapandi, passed away during the trial. The ganja in this case was found near Revathy’s residence. These rulings highlight the court’s firm stance against drug trafficking in the region.
