Thu Apr 17 11:21:49 UTC 2025: ## Indian Rupee Strengthens Against US Dollar

**Mumbai, April 17, 2025** – The Indian rupee strengthened for the fourth consecutive day, closing at 85.37 against the US dollar, a 27 paise increase. This marks a recovery from losses incurred after the announcement of US tariffs on April 2nd. The strengthening is attributed to positive domestic equity trends, increased foreign fund inflows, and a weakening US dollar. While a slight recovery in crude oil prices exerted some downward pressure, the overall investor sentiment remained positive.

Analysts cite the surge in domestic equities and Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) inflows, totaling ₹3,936.42 crore on Wednesday, as key drivers of the rupee’s appreciation. However, ongoing importer demand for dollars and the rise in crude oil prices to $66.43 per barrel are expected to limit further sharp gains. The rupee’s gains over the past four sessions total 131 paise, representing a 1.5% increase.

Future rupee movements are expected to range between 85.20 and 85.70, according to Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst at Mirae Asset Sharekhan. He suggests that upcoming US economic data releases, including unemployment claims and housing data, will influence trading. The dollar index also saw a marginal increase of 0.10%, trading at 99.24. Meanwhile, the Indian equity markets performed strongly, with the BSE Sensex up 1.96% and the Nifty up 1.77%.
