Thu Apr 17 16:47:43 UTC 2025: **Bengaluru Metro Construction Accident Leads to Driver’s Death, Arrest, and Calls for Safety Audit**

Bengaluru, India – A Bengaluru autorickshaw driver was killed on Wednesday when a concrete girder being transported for Namma Metro construction fell on his vehicle. The Yelahanka Traffic Police have arrested the truck driver and filed a case against him and the manager of Nagarjuna Construction Company Ltd., the contractor responsible for the project.

Police investigations indicate the accident occurred when the truck driver made a sudden U-turn, causing the girder to slip and strike the auto-rickshaw. Charges against the accused include causing death due to negligence and rash driving under the Indian Motor Vehicle Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023.

Following the incident, Bengaluru Central BJP MP P.C. Mohan wrote to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) Managing Director, demanding accountability from both the contractor and BMRCL officials. Mr. Mohan’s letter criticizes the lack of safety measures, inadequate barricading, and insufficient monitoring of transported materials. He highlighted a pattern of negligence, stating that BMRCL has failed to take action despite previous similar incidents. He called for an immediate safety audit and the public disclosure of BMRCL’s safety spending.
