HYDERABAD, INDIA – The supernatural thriller “Odela 2,” a sequel to the crime thriller “Odela Railway Station,” premiered on April 17, 2025, on OTT platforms. Starring Tamannaah Bhatia in a pivotal role and directed by Ashok Tej, with a story by Sampath Nandi, the film had high expectations. However, reviews suggest it fails to live up to its predecessor’s success.
The film continues the story from where the first installment left off, shifting from a crime thriller to a supernatural horror thriller involving the vengeful spirit of Tirupati, a murderer whose spirit terrorizes the village of Odela after his death. Bhairavi (Tamannaah), a Naga Sadhu, arrives to combat the malevolent spirit.
While the initial premise and the visual of a child bringing Tirupati’s head to the police station are intriguing, the review criticizes the repetitive nature of the plot. The film’s storyline, according to critics, lacks originality, borrowing heavily from films like “Arundhati” and “Akhanda,” blending elements without creating a cohesive and fresh narrative. The fight between Bhairavi and Tirupati’s spirit lacks impactful conflict. Tamannaah’s portrayal of Bhairavi, although visually impressive with her character’s getup, does not fully capture the character’s strength and power. While the film features impressive graphics and music by B. Ajaneesh Loknath, the repetitive scenes and predictable plot weaken the overall impact.
Despite some praise for Tamannaah’s performance in the climax and Vashishtha N. Simha’s effective portrayal of Tirupati, the film’s flaws outweigh its strengths. The review concludes with a mixed response, acknowledging some positive elements like the cinematography and music, but ultimately criticizing the lack of originality and uneven pacing. The director leaves the film open-ended, hinting at a possible third installment.
