**Mandya, Karnataka, April 17, 2025** – Mandya district is set to experience a significant tourism boost with the identification of 106 new tourist sites across seven taluks. The announcement came from Deputy Commissioner Kumar during a Tourism Development Committee meeting on Thursday. The initiative also includes five new locations designated for adventure and water sports, primarily in the backwaters.
The newly identified sites are distributed as follows: Mandya (12), Malavalli (11), Maddur (18), Srirangapatna (24), Pandavapura (13), Nagamangala (10), and K.R. Pet (18). Deputy Director of Tourism Raghavendra highlighted the unique cultural significance of each location. The list has been submitted to the state government for approval and promotional efforts.
In a move to ensure visitor safety, the district administration will emphasize strict regulatory compliance for homestays. Deputy Commissioner Kumar mandated verification of gram panchayat permissions for existing homestays before licensing new ones. All homestays must meet safety standards, including fire safety and hygiene regulations. A multi-departmental inspection team will be formed to oversee compliance.
Before implementing water sports at the newly identified sites, a thorough safety assessment will be conducted. E-tenders for the operation of these sites will only be floated after this assessment is complete. Furthermore, e-tenders will be issued for the management of Yatri Nivas facilities in Melkote and Mulukatte to improve visitor accommodation. The meeting was attended by Zilla panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini and other officials.
