**GAZA CITY** – Israeli airstrikes have killed dozens of displaced Palestinians in multiple locations across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, according to the enclave’s civil defense agency. The attacks, which targeted encampments housing families who had fled their homes, have drawn international condemnation.
Mahmud Bassal, spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defence agency, reported that at least 16 people, mostly women and children, were killed and 23 wounded in a single strike on tents in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis. Al-Mawasi had been designated a “humanitarian zone” by Israel. Further attacks in the same area and in the northern town of Beit Lahiya resulted in additional deaths, bringing the total death toll to at least 24, according to Bassal. Among the victims were a father and child killed in an airstrike near al-Mawasi.
The attacks have sparked outrage among Palestinian officials and human rights organizations, who condemn the targeting of civilians seeking shelter.
